A few tips when hiring a moving company

Submitted by on April 30, 2009 – 2:39 PMNo Comment

Did you know that May is the busiest month for movers?  If you are moving, make sure you use a reputable, reliable moving company.
Here are some tips for protecting yourself when moving:

1. Get bids from several companies – if someone is bidding way less than your other quotes, be suspicious.

2. Check out your movers with the CPUC – http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/PUC/transportation/movers.htm

3. Make sure your contract has a NOT TO EXCEED clause.

4. Pay by credit card so you can dispute the charges if you have to.

5. Be suspicious of a mover who asks for cash only.

6. Ask for a Certificate of Insurance to make sure their coverage is up to date.

7. If possible, try to move on a weekday when moving companies are less booked and therefore rates are lower.

For help with packing and unpacking your home give Gayle Grace a call.  She’ll worry about the details so that you won’t have to.

For free boxes, check out Craigslist or send Cheryl an email; she & her Zephyr collegues have clients who are always looking to give away free boxes after their move.
